There are so many ways to be eco-friendly. You can recycle; use re-chargeable batteries; shop at local farmers markets; and forego disposable plastic bags.
Is it possible to be green in the bedroom? Absolutely! Although condoms and poorly-made sex toys add to the landfills and contaminate our oceans, environmentally-friendly sex toys are available. Here are my tips for having a greener sex life and earth-friendly products.
Sex Toys: An Eco-Introduction
Unfortunately, the sex toy industry is not regulated. The US government controls what goes into a baby’s mouth but could care less about what goes into your private parts. So, what does that mean to you? Sex toy manufacturers can put chemicals into sex toys without you knowing it.
It’s best to only use toys that are crafted out of eco-friendly materials like stainless steel, glass and wood or 100% silicone. How can you tell if a toy is made of 100% silicone? If it’s below $60 and the toy smells when you open the box, it’s most likely made with silicone AND chemical fillers. (Think about it: you get what you pay for!)
So, invest in high-quality long-lasting environmentally-friendly sex toys. You will pay more, but they last longer and are much healthier for you and the environment.
Here are some of my favorite eco-friendly sex toy brands. Also, visit this great Sex Toys Shoppe!
Leaf
Leaf vibrators were the first vibrators that were presented in recycled packaging. All of their vibrators are rechargeable and 100% silicone with no added chemicals.
Crave
All Crave vibrators are made from the finest silicone and are rechargeable. Unlike other manufacturers, they use minimal packaging so that there is less waste. Plus, their toys are made in the USA.
Njoy
Made of 100% medical-grade stainless steel, Njoy sex toys are true works of art! Metal is excellent for temperature play, which adds an entire new dimension to pleasure. Warm it in boiling water or stick it in the freezer and see for yourself!
The weight of metal also feels differently compared to other sex toys. All of their toys are crafted in the USA.
NobEssence
These gorgeous wooden sex toys are nothing to be scared of. Made in the USA with renewable wood, NobEssence wooden sculptures are truly unique. Don’t worry about splinters! They use a smooth, non-porous and innovative coating that meets medical standards. This coating is also odorless and can be soaked in water.
Crystal Delights and PyreXions
These toys are handmade by skilled artisans in the USA. Both Crystal Delights and PyreXions each use medical grade Pyrex Borosilicate glass for their butt plugs and dildos. Unlike other glass toys from China, which are much less expensive, these manufacturers handcraft all of their sex toys, as well as take the time for the glass to be heated and cooled down properly so that there are no porous places for bacteria to hide. Just like stainless steel, glass is great for temperature play and can be heated in the microwave or cooled in the freezer.
Personal Lubricants
You can find KY and Astroglide in any drugstore for very little money. Why are they so inexpensive? These companies use many synthetic chemicals, which brings down the cost of manufacturing. Chemicals can damage and irritate the mucous membranes in your vagina or anus. Therefore, I recommend all-natural or organic lubricants that are vegan and are not tested on animals. These personal lubricants are also good for you because they do not contain irritants such as glycerin and parabens.
My favorite personal lubricants are Blossom Organics; Good Clean Love; Intimate Organics; and Sliquid Organics.
Condoms
There are many condoms on the market, but not all of them are vegan-friendly and contain no glycerin or parabens. Vegan condoms exceed FDA standards for strength and reliability. Again, they can be more expensive only because they are more expensive to make.
My favorite condoms are Glyde, Kimono MicroThin, and Sir Richard’s.
