“It’s better to show up than to give up.” ~Bernie Sanders
When it comes to politics, lately, I’ve been playing ostrich. It’s tough to face the world as an American and still believe I can make a positive impact. But the alternative is unthinkable, so I’m going to start showing up to support Bernie.
Here’s my Top 10 list of favorite quotes from Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders:
10. “We are not going back. We are not returning to the days of back-room abortions, when countless women died or were maimed. The decision about abortion must remain a decision for the woman, her family and a physician to make, not the government.” ~ Bernie Sanders
9. “You have given the wealthiest portion of the population a tax break, and now you are coming before the American people and saying we don’t have enough money to protect the sick and the old.” ~ Bernie Sanders
8. “You know, I think many people have the mistaken impression that Congress regulates Wall Street. In truth that’s not the case. The real truth is that Wall Street regulates the Congress.” ~ Bernie Sanders
7. “If you can’t afford to care for veterans, then don’t go to war.” ~ Bernie Sanders
6. What my campaign is about is a political revolution – millions of people standing up and saying, enough is enough. Our government belongs to all of us, and not just the hand full of billionaires. ~ Bernie Sanders
5. “We must fundamentally restructure our student loan program. It makes no sense that students and their parents are forced to pay interest rates for higher education loans that are much higher than they pay for car loans or housing mortgages.” ~ Bernie Sanders
4. When Jimmy Kimmel asked Bernie Sanders if he believed in God, he replied:
“I am who I am and what I believe in and what my spirituality is about is that we are all in this together.” ~ Bernie Sanders
3. Teachers did not cause this recession. Firefighters and police officers who are being attacked daily by governors all over this country did not cause this recession. Construction workers did not cause this recession. This recession,” Sanders declared in June 2012, “was caused by the greed, the recklessness and illegal behavior of the people on Wall Street.” ~ Bernie Sanders
2. “Education should be a right, not a privilege. We need a revolution in the way that the United States funds higher education.” ~ Bernie Sanders
1. “The problems we face, did not come down from the heavens. They are made, they are made by bad human decisions, and good human decisions can change them.” ~ Bernie Sanders
